In a very hard & competive game our Minor’s win to go Top of Table

This has to be one of the hardest games this Minor Team has played so far this year. They overcame Thomas Davis in Meadowvale on a score line of 2.12 to 1.7.  Well done to all the lads in what was an outstanding performance from every single player. This was one of the Best Team Performances over the last few years.

We had the wind in the first half. However, we were 1.1 to 2pts down after 1o Mins. This was a strong, hard & big Thomas Davis Team. However, our men pulled back the game after a strong succession of very well taken points, by Kevin, Liam, Ian, Thomas & Jamie. We were now 0.9 points up to their 1.2. As we approached half time, we feared this was not enough of a margin with the strong wind we had. This is when the depth & breath in our team came to the four. In two successive attach’s from our defence, Stephen Ryan set up the first goal for Liam McCarthy to put to the back of their net. And then on the next attack, with some excellent play into Stephen, he put away his own goal. The first half ended 2.9 to their 1.2.

As we took the half time chat, we were not sure if this was enough of a lead with the strong wind we had to play into for the 2nd half. There was no need to fear. Our ‘one legged’ Goalie, and strong defence of Chris, Alex, Stephen, Thomas, Kevin & Conor stood tall and built a wall from 30 yards out, to give away only 5 points in the 2nd half. This combined with the piercing runs of Kevin, Liam, Paul & Jamie plus team play & support from Liam, Ian, Sean, Conor & Cian D, this was a great all round performance.

One absolute material point to note about the men today and this team, was the personal & team discipline that they all showed. The opposition were a very physical team and our men knew  on many occasions that they were in a battle and were at the end of some on and off the ball interventions. They kept the head and proved that playing team football and keeping their discipline, will always be the winner.

We have a break now until the 25th June and we want to wish Mark Theunissen best of luck in his leaving Cert Exams.

Our Team of 18 Today ; Ciaran Haverty & Cormac McCabe in Goal, Backs of Chris Roland, Conor Ring, Stephen Murphy, Alex Tallon, Kevin Quinn & Thomas Ryan.    Mid Field of Liam Tyrell & Jamie Blake Holmes.   Forwards of Paul O Conor, Ian Connoughton, Liam McCarty, Conor Austin, Steven Ryan, Cian Dunne, Sean Hussey and Conor Keane (injured) on the line.
