Camaint – Tuesday 27th June

On a beautiful sunny Tuesday evening, 27 June 2017, at St Marks, the U11’s joined St Marks, St Judes and Ballyboden for the first week of a 4 week series of Camaint.
The tournament is to encourage the use of ground hurling, and to continue to develop the skills of the kids in Go Games rules. Each match is split in 4 quarters, with quarter 1 and 3, being ground hurling only.
On arrival we started with a match against Ballyboden, who have a strong hurling background. Ballyboden started lively however the Gers settled into the game and by the second half were a match, holding Ballyboden scoreless for the last quarter. This was helped by some excellent goal keeping by David Gunning. Dara Claffey and Oscar Kenny went close with some late shots.
After a quick break we moved to our next game against St Judes, a hurling only club. The Gers were up to the pace early on, and its was 50:50 for the key early exchanges, with strong defending from Rian O’Neill, and good work from Luke Redmond in midfield. Luke Mason and Aaron Kelly worked tireless. Mathew Kearney in goals gave us a great platform, with long and accurate puckouts.
The third and last game was against St Marks. Again a very competitive match with very tight scoring. Sami Chorbachi scored a great goal after good work in the midfield by James O’Leary and Patrick O’Gorman. Conor O’Reilly gave the team talk at half time, and encouraged the boys to continue the good work from the first half. We continued with good pressure in the ground hurling quarter, and some excellent defence by Jack Purcell and Conor O’Reilly.
All in all, a great experience, and we look forward to 3 more weeks, of developing our boys, in preparation for the last part of the season starting in September.
A trip to Parnell Park will close out the Camaint competition at the end of August.
