Camaint 4th July

Geraldines had the pleasure of hosting the Camaint Week 2 on Tuesday evening, 4th July 2017. The Gers U11’s were joined by Kevins, Commercials and Ballyboden for the second week of a four week series of Camaint.
With the help and support of a number of parents, the pitches were set-up and marked out, in preparation for the matches. All teams arrived in plenty of time and with very enthusiastic players, on a lovely warm evening in Cornelscourt.
With a large squad of players at our disposal, including five players from the Under 10’s, we setup mini squads for each of the games. This involved rotating players across each half of the game, to ensure everyone got equal game time. With a number of players on holidays over the coming weeks, it is important to have good squad numbers to cover all four weeks of the Camaint.
The Gers started with a re-match against Ballyboden, who we played in week one. The Gers showed that they had progressed and learned a lot from the first week, evident in the increase in ground hurling skills. The Gers coaches had focused on ground hurling since week 1, with two training sessions on Saturday and Monday. As for all games, the team was rotated at half time to ensure all boys got an opportunity against Ballyboden.
After a quick turnaround, we moved to our next game against Commercials, a hurling only club. The Gers were up to the pace early on, and with strong performances around the pitch. Plenty of the boys saw action in this game, and there were fierce exchanges, all legal. Our boys held their own. The final game was against Kevins. Again a very competitive match with very tight scoring.
It was also fantastic to see so many parents in attendance, and their continuing and active support for the boys. Long may this continue.
The boys enjoyed their evening work and refreshments were provided to all four teams at the end. All in all, a great experience, and we look forward to two more weeks, of developing our boys hurling skills.
Special thanks to Cormac McCabe (GPM) and Doireann Ní Shiochrú (Kilmacud Crokes) who refereed the games.
The boys who played this week were as follows: Aryn Kelly, Christian Kenny Ward, David Gunning, Irfan Khan, Jack Purcell, James O’Leary, Kyle Tormey, Luke Connolly, Luke Mason, Matthew Kearney, Oscar Kenny, Patrick O’Gorman, Rian O’Neill, Sami Chorbachi. Special thanks to the under 10 members: Aodhan Kennedy, Frankie Rowley, Luka Kelly, Owen Twomey, Shane Coyne.
