Big win for our combined under 13/14 team

Good conditions apart from a few duck ponds away at St Annes Park this afternoon for our League 8 round 4 tie against Naomh Barrog. It was 15 a side with 4 subs for a 2.00pm start. Zach our team Captain for the year went in for the coin toss & after rallied his troops in the huddle before they took the field. We were going to leave every thing on the pitch in this game & everyone was going to give 110% for the full 60 minutes.

Our line up today with their scores in brackets was in goal Paul.H, our full back line was Thomas, Zach & Ronan with Jack subbing on & off. Half backs were Alex M, Morgan & Shane O S. In mid we had Jamie (1 : 05) & Peter (0:02). Half forwards were Charlie, Mark & Cormac (1:00) with Mathew (0:01) & our new player Michael (1:00) subbing on & off. Up front we had Cian, Robert (2:04) & Omar (0:01) with Liam (0:01) who subbed on & off along with the other subs at each quarter giving them all equal game time.

When the play got under way Robert had the first of his many scores a nice point from play inside the first minute. Omar added another point on 4min with the home team getting their 1st score a point from play on 6min. On 7min Jamie after a great run through the middle gave the keeper no chance kicking a powerful shot to the net. Barrog got in for a goal soon after a rare mistake in our defence giving our keeper no chance. On 9min Cormac who was having one of his best days in the black & amber found himself in a one on one with the keeper he checked b4  calmly kicking to the roof of the net for a great goal. Barrog again got in for another goal after hitting us on the counter on 12min & a point on 15min to level the scores. We then had some great points from Peter, Jamie & Robert from a free to put us back in front. Michael playing in his first game for The Gers kicked a great goal on 27min placing his shot to the far top cornor of the net. Mathew added another nice point from play to leave the half time score  Gers 3:07 Barrog 2:03.

Zach & Jamie rallied their troops again at half time to double up their effort & to keep going all the way to the end. Robert opened the scoring again when he landed a great point from a free on 34min. Jamie kicked a great point from play on 37min & another after a great give & go with his brother Mark. Barrog got their only score of the 2nd half a goal on 40min. This says alot about our defence today. Jamie added two more points from play on 42 & 44min. Robert had the ball in the net on 53min & again on 58min when he was quickest to react to breaking ball in front of goal. Liam rounded his man b4 kicking a great point from play soon after to leave the full time score Gers 5:13 Barrog 3:03.

This was another great win for our new team with every one playing their part from Paul in goal who made some great saves along with his very good kickouts. Zach who put in some great blocks, Alex M who tackled hard & turned over a lot of ball, Morgan who made 3 great high catches & Shane O S passing & support play stood out. Thomas, Ronan & Jack also played their part in a great defensive display. Jamie & Peter came out on top in mid. Up front Cormac was outstanding along with Charlie, Mark & Omar they demanded the ball & set up alot of attacks. Robert was our top scorer & he was helped by Cian, Mathew, Liam & new man Michael.

Unavailable today were Donal, Alex H, Shane P, Eoin, Padraig, Sam & Ben who we look forward to having back for our next game away to Na Fianna on Saturday 24th of March. We will train again on Tuesday at Clonkeen 7pm to 8pm & Thursday at Loretto Foxrock back hockey pitch 7pm to 8pm

A big thanks to our umpires today Ronan & James. To Julie who gave updates on whatsapp & did first aid. Also a big thanks to our head coach Darren Magee who has had a lot of great coaching sessions with the boys recently in Clonkeen College.
