Girl teams Match reports 27/28 April
U9 Gers Girls v St Anne’s
Geraldines P Moran U9 girls welcomed St Anne’s Raheny to Cornelscourt on Sunday Morning for their first home match of the season. Gers girls started well and were the first to put points on the board with some good attacking play from the midfield up to the forwards. Gers worked hard to keep the chances for St Anne’s to a minimum and took their own chances well throughout the match. It was great to see at least 7 of the girls kicking points or goals in what was an impressive team display from the Gers. The U9s next league match is away to St Mark’s on May 19th.
U10 Gers Girls v Bray Emmet’s
On Saturday 27th the U10 girls hosted Bray Emmets in Cornelscourt. It was a very windy day which made conditions very difficult for both teams. The GERS played with the wind in the first half and started very strongly getting some good early points.
Midfield played the long ball into the forwards who converted very well.Playing into a strong wind for the 2nd half meant a change of tactic and the girls moved the ball really well through the hand and low kicking. Again there were some great scores. In the end the GERS came out on top 17pts to Bray’s 10pts.Special mention to Molly who was playing her first match with us having joined the club recently. Well played Molly !!
U11 Gers Girls v St Mary’s
Sunday afternoon the U11 Gers girls welcomed St Mary’s to Cornelscourt. Gers were strong from the outset. Their kicking in front of the posts has gone from strength to strength and frustrated the oppositions defence. St Mary’s made great attempts up front but their efforts were shut down by a combination of a solid defensive line and some great clearances and saves by the goalkeepers. The midfielders moved the ball decisively linking the plays with accurate passes and kicks up field and also scored shots themselves from well out the field. The team work and linked up play from end to end reflected a growth in confidence stemming from all their training efforts over the last few months.
Final score 3-22 to 0-1. Thank you parents for all your support and thank you to St Mary’s for making the trip.
U12 Gers Girls v St Mary’s
Gers U12 had their inaugural game as a team on Saturday morning against St Mary’s in Meadowvale.
This new Gers team has just come together and is a mix of U12s and U11’s so the focus was on getting a run out as a team, working on cohesiveness and trying players in different positions to identify strengths. Unfortunately Storm Hannah put paid to most of those ambitions and made it an uncomfortable battle for both teams. There were however some good individual displays – short passes and low kicks were the order of the day and the girls enjoyed the experience and having the opportunity to try out new positions.
While The Gers team fought bravely they were beaten by a stronger more experienced team on the day.
