Good Tough win on the north side for U13s
The match in Raheny, got off to a shaky start with the Gers wasting a lot of ball in good areas. Naomh Barrog got off to a good start taking their points well. Naomh Barrog continued to pull away from the Gers but we kept fighting and great scores from Mark, Donal and Kevin kept the Gers touch. As Half-Time beckoned there was a moment which would change the outcome of the game. A beautifully weighted ball from Kevin spilt the Naomh Barrog defence wide open and Sean pounced on it and was fouled in the process. Quick thinking from Mark took the Naomh Barrog’s defence by surprise and he rattled it into the net . At Half-Time we were 10 points down.
The Gers needed a massive half and got off to a quick start with a beautiful team move which came from a good kick out by Cormac and a superb catch by Ciaran, who laid it off to Jamie BH and a good ball to new boy Borja was handpassed on to Mark who popped it over the bar. There was great encouragement from the sideline who spurred us on. A Penalty was blasted in by Donal after Sean was tumbled in the box. There was an 8 points lead to Naomh Barrog when Conor Austin came on for Borja who made an eventfull debut. Thomas , Seamus and Liam T were under pressure from some strong tackling but they battled bravely. Daniel was drafted in to the Full-Back line due to a bad injury to Jamie L but didn’t look out of place. Alex and Ciaran were winning plenty of balls in the defence. Kevin and Jamie were running from half to half all day long. Mark, Donal and Tom F were winning great ball in good areas. Conor, Sean, Borja and Liam McC were making great runs and good scores. With 10 minutes to go the Gers got a vital goal when Donal came running through the heart of the Barrog defense. His shot was blocked and the ball went into Sean’s grasp and he rattled the net from close range. It was now a five point lead to Barrog. Byron came on for Liam Mc and Conor R came on for Seamus. Byron won a great ball and gave it to an on running Kevin who forced a great save from the keeper. From the 45 Mark drove it into the square and Conor got a vital touch and it fell to Sean who buried it into the net and they were just 2 down at this stage. A shot from Kevin rattled the crossbar and Sean thumped it into the net. The Gers had the Lead for the first time in the match. Barrog had a chance to win it but a fine double save from our keeper Cormac kept them out. Great last ditch defending from Liam T and Thomas allowed the Gers to hold out. When the final whistle blew there was great excitement from the sideline celebrating an amazing comeback. As the players exited the pitch, they were greeted by Capri-Suns and Chocolate Biscuits thanks to Daniel’s Mum Terri. It was a great effort by all. Thanks to the parents for coming out to support us.
