At a windy Kingswood last night out adult team were decisively beaten by our great rivals St Kevins Killians in the O’Broin Cup. This was always going to be a tough assignment for the Gers as the opposition are a very experienced and well organasised team; That said our boys had opportunities and it was clear that we lacked sharpness throughout the pitch that in the end was the difference between the two teams.
We played with the wind in the first half and after a slow start a point and a goal by Donal appeared to have us well settled but we were rocked by the concession of two quick goals: This clearly gave great confidence to the opposition who enjoyed a purple patch in the middle of the first half to pull clear. Our boys however showed spirit to pull back this lead with a series of points from Donal and Micheal to 2 points as we approached half time however we conceeded two points in the last minute of the first half to leave us 4 down and facing the wind in the second half.
A good point by Daniel who had moved to the full forward line for the second half gave us early hope however the opposition got a grip on game and using the wind pulled well clear. The Gers never gave up and at the end had a number of goal opportunities that on another day would have put the final score much closer. the final score was a loss on the score of 2.14 to 1.7.
