St. James Gaels 1-4 Geraldine Moran’s 2-15
The Gers had an unexpecdly easy passage at the Iveagh Grounds yesterday against the home side in a bad tempered match that keeps us on track in the race for promotion.
St James Gaels started well holding possession but were not threatening the Gers goal, once Dick Young and Evan O’Brien gained the upper hand around midfield a steady supply of ball was being provided to our forwards who started to win frees that Donal McEnery slotted over. After 13 minutes corner forward Micheál Curtin had blasted home two goals and was cynically dragged down (Tir Eoghan GAA schhtyle!!) shortly afterwards when gunning for a third.
The pass is on
At half-time the score read 0-1 to 2-10 and this in no way flattered the Gers; lots of scoring opportunities were spurned and some self-indulgent passages which better teams would capitalise on will be a worry for the management team. Keith Stephens had to hit the dugout before half-time as the tough tackling took it’s toll.
The second half started with a Schmeer point and following some excellent defensive work from Killian McCabe and Jim McGrath, Craig Scollard scored the individual point of the day cutting in from the left and scoring a point from 30 metres on the run. George Callery finally scored the point his energy deserved followed by a McEnery point from play which was equally deserving. After this the local team scored some good points and their full forward caught a diagonal high ball and neatly slipped it across Neil Costello for an excellently finished goal. The game was all over at this stage and when the referee blew the whistle for the last time another 2 valuable league points were garnered and the elusive fight for promotion continues on.
