The Gers continued their early season form with a comfortable victory over close neighbours St. Francis Gaels Cabinteely on Sunday. Cournelscourt was sun soaked with the home team playing with the gentle breeze for the first half and did not waste any time in getting off the mark with a succession of early points. The greater fitness and work ethic was evident early on, with Lochlann McCabe particularly impressive picking out long range passes for the first 2 goals. His first was a defence splitting pass for Donal McEnery who finished coolly, the second pass was a beautiful diagonal one that hopped up for Daniel Hussey to touch over the advancing ‘keeper.

With a comfortable half time lead the Gers went about their play with purpose, keeping St. Francis Gaels under constant pressure. Padraig Flynn got a second half goal and a point to add to Aaron McDonnell’s flurry of scores and David Lavelle’s scoring return after being out injured. John Doyle chipped in with a few ciotóg points and Gary Bridges’ scores ensured that all the forwards scored from play.

Next up for the Gers is a league fixture away to another one of our neighbours, Cuala, in Hyde Park at midday next Sunday.
