Ballinteer St. John’s 0-5 4-11 Gers
@ Loreto Park
The expected win was achieved yesterday in our last league game to leave the Geraldines joint top of the table on points with 3 other teams. After a full league campaign we are still unsure where we stand so will await communication from the county board with great interest! Having beaten the other teams tied on points in the regular league season surely we should be deemed champs!!!
This game was never really in doubt as we opened up a 3 point lead after 11 minutes, the wind and wet conditions did not allow for flowing football but points from Donal McEnery, John Doyle and a well worked move that cumulated in a Padraig Flynn goal, finishing at close range, gave us the cushion of a comfortable lead playing into the wind. Flying wing back George Callery added a late goal to his earlier point to leave the teams at half-time 0-2 to 2-6.
Our second half was a story of missed scoring opportunities as Ballinteer kept a spare man at the back all through, Céit MacStiofán and Callery again were the goal scorers and a Craig Scollard point being the score of the half. Killian McCabe and Neil Carlin broke out to win most balls played into our defence with Lochlann McCabe tidying up and carrying forward to assist our comfortable midfield partnership of captain Dick Young and Evan O’Bien. Karol Guerin shored up the centre of defence well and Neil Costello dealt tidily with any ball that came near his goal. The returning pair of Gary Bridges and Ciarán Hudson added much energy to proceedings before the game petered out to it’s inevitable conclusion.
We await now whatever is deemed in store for us for in our extended quest for promotion.
