img_0415 img_0416 In spite of the biting easterly breeze, Gers U8 girls soared to a three from three blitz win today at Naomh Olaf GAA club.

In the first game, for the first half, we played into the gale. Olaf’s threw everything at our girls. But we had a strong back line of Grace Guinan, Willow and Sisi. Haidi had a stormer also tackling strongly and linking well between backs and midfield. Jessica in goal was fantastic.

Lorna controlled the midfield area tackling strongly and clearing her lines. And in the second half with the wind at our backs we pulled ahead, scoring nine points to nil, Lorna taking two of our three scores.

The second game was more difficult and Olaf’s led 4:3 until the last play of the game. We got a late free and with Willow’s wonder strike we closed out a 6:4 win.

The third game we kept them scoreless for the whole game, a credit to our back line of Anna Keane, Willow, Abigail Coburn and Luisa in goal. We took the lead in the second half with a great team score, Grace Keane classily hand passed to Jessica who passed to Gemma who had the skill and composure to put us ahead. A late score from Anna Meehan, our youngest team member, put the game beyond doubt.

All our girls were great today and it was a real joy to see them show off their medals after the hard work they’ve put in all year.

From a small base we now have 23 members of our U7 and U8 girls’ teams. This wouldn’t be possible without the support of the parents and the sponsors and a special thanks to
