It was a blustery morning for our Under 8’s Aoibhe, Abi, Abigail, Anna, Emma, Freya, Keelin, Sisi, Sophie and Zoe as they lined up against a strong Cuala side in Meadow Vale on Sunday 12th of March 2017.

Abi, Freya and Keelin made their match debuts and what a debut it was.

We played 8 a side and with our 2 subs we were able to rotate the girls playing positions on a regular basis which helped their tactful play throughout the game!

The first half was tough, as not only were we playing against a very strong team, we also had the disadvantage of playing into the wind, but our girls played well and held their own.

Our goal stopper and point blocker Abigail was in goals and had an outstanding performance throughout the match.

The Gers Girls were down by 1 point at half time, but they regrouped and continued to press forward in the second half. It became evident all the hard work the girls had put in at training was paying off as they took the second half by storm, scoring point after point with points and goals from Zoe, Emma, Aoibhe and Anna.

Our mighty midfield players, Keelin, Emma, and Anna worked hard as a team linking well between our back and forwards displaying some exceptional skills.

Our fabulous forwards Sisi, Zoe, and Freya were on fire covering a lot of ground running at the Cuala defence – a force to be reckoned with!

This great attack was supported by our dynamic defence which had a strong back line of Aoibhe, Abi and Sophie which saw some very skilful hand passing and blocking. Not much was going to get passed this team!

In the end the Gers Girls determination and perseverance paid off with them winning the match with a score line of 14 points to 9.

Every single member of the team played a crucial role in this fantastic win and not only did our Gers Girls get the result they deserved they all had a ball doing so.

Here’s to many more fun Sunday’s ahead – no matter what the weather!

We would like to say a big thank you to all our supporters for all their help this morning and for cheering on our Under 8’s Gers Girls.
