Foxrock Geraldines 2:15  v Naomh Olaf 1:2

The Gers U16 were in action against our local rivals in Parc Ui Bhriain in Sandyford, the pitch was in fairly good condition considering all the recent rain. The lads were keen to follow up last weeks great but narrow win over St Sylvester’s A in Cornelscourt with another victory.

The game started in the worst possible way for the Gers with Olafs bursting through our defence and scoring a goal after only a couple of minutes. But the Gers steadied up and responded with a few quick points from Jonathan, James and Sam they all had a really good first half. Then Luke scored one of the points of the game when he picked up a ball from the midfield and hit a sweet left footer over the bar. Patrick started to boss the midfield and was winning most of the 50/50 balls and was setting the forwards up for scoring chances. As the first half drew to a close the Gers were up a few points, The Gers defenders were all having a good steady game Daniel Mc and Daniel F were doing great man marking roles and stopped there opponents from scoring, Kevin made some great interceptions getting out in front of his man and mopping up the danger. Mark and William were outstanding throughout the half and were always first to the ball. Taylor was having one of his usual steady games getting the better of his marker all the time and held him scoreless throughout the half. The forwards were busy all through the half we were made to work hard for every score we got, Conor,Cian and Leo were heavily involved in all the moves. Oscar played in Goal again and is always worth a couple of goals of a start and again proved this with a good first half performance and his kick outs were going well into the oppositions half.

After a good team talk at half time the lads were ready for the second half and determined not to let the lead slip, as with the first half the first score went to Olafs when they scored a great point from a good distance out. This was what the Gers needed to let them know they had play better to win the game. From then on we took control of the game and started to find the scoring boots, Cian was now coming more into the game as was Ronan and the both chipped in a few scores. Patrick, Sam and James were taking control and not letting Olafs out of their half. When they did break out, the defence were as in the First half outstanding Mark was fielding high balls and making tackles all game, Taylor, Kevin and William all kept their players scoreless despite Olafs having a lot of possession there was no way was past the defence. Daniel Mc & Daniel F were making runs from defence and setting up attacks. Then came the move of the match which resulted in Cian scoring a great goal, followed soon after by Leo who blasted home from the edge of the square. Oscar was kicking out from the goal against the wind but was still putting the ball in the Olafs half. Conor and Ronan were a constant threat to the Olafs defence throughout the half. Daniel F popped up late to score a fine point.

Great Team performance lads, keep up the good work. See you all at Training Monday Well Done !!!!

I witnessed the game… some superb football on display with Paddy lording it in midfield, jumping high to catch Oscar’s fantastic kickouts… a sweet victory in the end! Well done to all.
