Very windy at the 9th Lock for our League 7 Round 3 game against Lucan. It was 13 a side today on the full pitch with a 2pm start. Donal Harcourt was our Captain for the day & elected to play with the strong wind in the 1st half.

It was great to have Donal back between the sticks where he gave a man of the match performance. Donal made many great saves keeping his team in the game early on. Donal’s ball handling was sure and a safe pair of hands under the high ball he was also quick off his line a few times to clear the danger with long accurate kickouts to team mates. Donal played at left corner back in the 2nd half.

Ronan Kennedy played at right corner back where he put in a big shift of non stop running, tackling & clearing his lines. Ronan played at right half forward in the 2nd half. Peter started at full back before moving to midfield where he kicked a couple of nice points from play. He also played in goal for a while 2nd half. Zach had one of his best days in the old black & amber at right back. Zach was the rock that many of the Lucan attacks perished on. Zach was fearless in the tackle putting his body on the line line time after time to block certain scores.

Shane Power & Alex Mason were our 2 sweepers/half backs today. Shane was outstanding in what could be a new position for him on the team going forward. Alex got stuck in from the start & was brilliant at moving the ball out of defence, the side step & clever hand pass to a team mate.

Morgan & Jamie paired up at midfield where they broke even with a big strong Lucan duo. Morgan kicked a couple of great points in the 1st half & also played in goal for a while 2nd half. Jamie gave his all with non stop running on what was a very big pitch for 13 a side. Jamie did a great job at full back in the 2nd half where he won a lot of ball playing into the strong wind. H.T.Score Lucan 2:03 Gers 0:05

Cormac was outstanding in what was a new position for him at left half forward. He was our most valuable player looking for & at times demanding the ball from his team mates. Cormac ran at the Lucan defence causing them all sorts of problems, kicking one great point from play. Cian led our attack at centre forward showing for the ball & getting stuck in. Cian kicked 2 great points from frees & did well at midfield 2nd half. Thomas used his height & strength to good advantage proving a handful for the home defence. Thomas had to go off 2nd half after he picked up a heavy knock after a few minutes on the side line to his credit he came back on & played to the end.

Up front we had Ben from our U12 Squad & Paul Homoroden our new player playing in his 1st game for ‘ The Gers ‘. Both gave their all & will have learned a lot from the experience!! F.T. Score Lucan 5:10 Gers 0:07.

This was not a bad result for us today & the boys can hold their heads high. Considering we were without 5 of our best players Alex Hopkins, Shane O Sullivan, Shane McDonald, Mark Maguire & Robert Walsh who we all look forward to having back for our next game at home to Naomh Barrog B on Sat 20th of May. Also Lucan were able to bring on their 6 subs & refused to take a player off when we had players off with knocks though well ahead on the score board. This is with in the rules of the game & is not a good way to win a game of Gaelic Football!!

We will train again on Tuesday 9th of May at 6:45pm Cornelscourt. ‘ On The Gers ‘ & Keep the Faith.
