Cold but dry with a strong wind at home today in Cornelscourt for our last game of the season a challenge game against our local rivals Kilmacud Crokes. It was 15 a side with 4 subs for a 2pm start. Crokes had a strong panel of 23 players made up from their C & D teams.

Paul was back in goals today as Brandon was unavailable. Paul had a great game making a few great point blank saves. His long kickouts were also a big help to his team mates. Cormac played at right corner back where he did a great man marking job on this his first time playing in defence. Our Captain Zack was at full back first half where he made many great blocks. He played at centre field in the 2nd half. Jack was at left corner where he gave a great 60 minutes for the jersey marking, checking & blocking. Our half back line was our best line in today’s game Shane Power gave a man of the match performance at left half Shane won a lot of dirty breaking ball moving it quickly to his forwards. Peter at centre 1st half & Donal 2nd came out on top in this section. At right half our Braveheart defender Alex Mason gave another great hour for the team. Alex tackled hard & always made himself available for a pass. Alex ran hard at the Crokes defence every chance causing them all sorts of problems. Donal at mid 1st half was outstanding. His partner Morgan gave a man of the match performance marking an old team mate he came out on top & finished the game with 5 goals & 2 points. H.T Score Gers 6:03 Crokes 3 :02

At left half forward Cian Lowry had one of his best games in the black & amber colours. Cian showed for the ball a lot before passing quickly & accurately to a team mate. Jamie played at centre forward where he won a lot of ball. He also broke up a lot of Crokes attacks before they could get going. Jamie scored 1 goal and a point he also linked up with his brother Mark at right half for a few great give & go’s. At left corner forward Robert kicked a great goal from play in the 2nd half. Ross was outstanding at full forward scoring 2 goals & a point. Christopher at right corner showed good speed off the mark along with great ball handling skills.

Omar, Hugo, Liam & Eoin all subbed on in the forwards & added to the teams performance on the day. Liam kept up his score a game run when he kicked the last score a great point from play to leave the Full Time Score The Gers 9:05 Crokes 5:07. This was a brilliant win against a strong Crokes team who played in a League above us this year. We can look ahead with confidence to U15 football next year knowing we can hold our own with these teams. We will continue to train on Tue & Thu evenings from 7pm to 8pm at Kilbogget Park for a couple of more weeks.

On Sat 8th of Dec we will all meet up for a couple of hours to mark a great year for our combined united team. We will present each player with an award for commitment & attitude to training also for courage & bravery on the field of battle often against older more physical players. Marc will let you know venue & time nearer the date. It would be great if all 30 players who were involved with the team could attend so everyone spread the word. Come on The Village, Up the Parish & Hon The Gers.
