Two late goals for the opposition saw Na Dhubh Ghall claim victory on Saturday in Baldoyle on the scoreline of 4.3 to 1.6. This was a very competitive game between 2 evenly matched teams. The cross winds dominated and affected play for both sides in a game that was to be decided by the last two scores.
The wind slightly favoured the Gers in the first half and they converted 3 good points going in at half time with no scores conceded, helped in the main by what became a Man of the Match performance by Carl Byrne in goals. Both Teams struggled for possession with the Gers edging the better build up play against tough opposition.
With the wind strengthening against us in the 2nd half the Gers took 4 of their 6 chances for scores adding a total of 1 goal and 3 very well taken points. With the teams level entering the final stages, the luck fell to the opposition who scored two late goals to win the game. A special word for Carl Byrne who put in a tremendous performance as we came under pressure to to keep out the wind assisted onslaught. A draw would have been a fair result with each time converting the same quantity of scores.
Over all a very brave and wholehearted performance by our Gers’ Boys and a great match to be part of. The management team of Greg and Eugene were full of praise for the efforts of the lads after the game and the players are already looking forward to getting NA Dhubh GHALL at home on a less windy day when we hope to make turn the tables.
