U12 boys vs TSS
It was important to bounce back after our loss to Naomh Fionnbarra and with a home tie against Templeogue Synge Street, a team we beat earlier in the grading league, we looked to do it at the first opportunity. Our starting team was James K in goals, Tadhg and Owen G the full backs, Christian Owen T and Oisin half backs, Max and Hugo in midfield, Frankie Eoin D and Sean our half forwards with Colin and Luka up top. Our subs were Kevin, John, Mark and James D.
We wanted a good start and scored 1.02 in the opening 6 minutes with 2 points from Frankie and a goal from Luka converting our early possession into scores. TSS upped their game and came at us scoring a goal sandwiched between 2 wides as they capitalised on some wayward passing by our defensive unit. We get our passing together and from the 10th minute until the 15th we play the ball in their half and score 3 points with Frankie getting 2, the first after good fielding by Sean, and Luka the other with him showing good strength to hold onto possession under pressure from a couple of TSS defenders. TSS get a couple of points themselves before we make our first substitutions with James D coming in for Christian and John for Sean. They quickly add another point and are looking sharp on the attack and they score 1 more point before we bring on our other subs With Kevin replacing Hugo (John going into midfield) and Mark coming in for Colin. We create a couple more chances before half time but fail to register any more scores so we lead by the minimum at HT. Score Gers 1.05 – TSS 1.04
At halftime they were told to increase their effort we hadn’t scored in the last 11 minutes of the half and TSS had been cutting through us way too easily. We expect more from our lads and too many of them weren’t tracking back when their man was going forward and if they were they were doing token runs, they were told that the bare minimum that we expect from them is to run/sprint back to match their opponent. We would have a slight wind advantage in the second half and told them to hit longer balls in when counter attacking.
We lose the throw in and defend really well forcing TSS to pass the ball around as we worked hard to deny them time and options but they get the first score of the half with a good point on 2 minutes to tie it up. We go up the other end from the kickout and Eoin D scores a great goal followed immediately but Luka getting a goal to put us firmly back into the driving seat. Frankie puts a tough free just wide on 8 minutes. A quick kickout catches us out (not for the first time in the game) and TSS go down and score a goal and get a second one moments later to tie it up again. On 10 minutes Hugo comes back on and a few minutes later his shot sneaks into the corner and this was followed in the 15th minute by a rocket from john to put us up by 6 again. Yet again from their quick kick out the go down our end and score a goal. We endure some sustained pressure from TSS but we show great character to keep them at bay but on 20 minutes they score a point to leave just 2 in it. With only 5 minutes left and a slender lead we needed to show desire to win the game and they proved that they had it in spades when on our next attack a long ball in to Luka in front of the goals saw him palm it into the net. This was the final nail in TSS coffin and you could see their players getting deflated after putting so much into closing the gap twice in the half. It also proved to be the final score of the game as we won by 5 points FT Score Gers 6.05 – TSS 4.06
There was plenty of good performances on the pitch and the defensive unit in the second half was excellent Tadhg, the 2 Owens, Christian, Oisin and the 2 James worked overtime at times to deny TSS time and space on the ball. Colin linked up really well on the left making himself available for the ball and attacking their half back line when he got it, he also made those hard yards coming back helping out the defence along with Max. Back to Oisin though without doubt he had his best game for us, he rarely has a bad one but on Saturday he really showed his skill set, with some excellent high catches, smart use of the ball whether it was a quick hand pass and looking for the return or an accurate kick pass or advancing with the ball he was making great decisions all the time coupled with his defensive work he has added real steel to his game.
Our final league game is away to Fingallians on Saturday and another win would set us up well for the 2nd half of the season in September, so it would be great to have as many parents and families going out to supporting them.
