Another sparkling performance by our under 12 panel this afternoon up at our neighbours St. Olafs, with a panel of 19 players competing very well in a tough encounter. The Gers came out the hungrier team in what was sometimes a bruising battle, with the 2 Conors, Ruari and Byron demonstrating in particular very strong battling qualities early on in the middle third of the field, which lifted the team to dig in and win the individual battles. Those boys took some punishment today… warriors!

The whole panel settled in well to the task in hand, and some strong running and quick ball movement became a feature of our game, with the Gers knocking up a comfortable lead at half time. This was built on some excellent defending, with Brian H and Daniel C excelling in the full back line, and Matthew F once again playing a stormer centre back.

Seamus, Max and Conor B shared goalkeeping duties during the game, but in truth they all had relatively quiet afternoons. Conor B also had a great game corner back. Both Max and Seamus had stints up front as well, and seemed to enjoy the opportunity. Naoise once again read the game very well, both in the full back line and the half back line. Cian C also slotted neatly into the back line, showing out in front on a number of occasions to clear their attacks.

Eoin H captained the team again today, and played a captain’s role from wing back, having an excellent second half in particular, winning some great ball and taking on his man on the outside for a few notable runs up field. Oran played both wing back and wing forward, winning some good ball and working hard.

Paul once again played wing forward, and after a slow start got on plenty of ball and bagged a few scores by getting on the end of a few lovely moves. Cormac also slotted in half forward, and demonstrated real tenacity to win ball, shipping a few heavy tackles which he seemed to bounce out of! Well done Cormac.

Alex was involved in a lot of football today, particularly out on the wing, and is improving every game, with some good runs while under pressure. Luke L played full forward for a period, showing really good hands and won a number of frees close to goals. Adam lead the full forward line, again getting on plenty of ball, and threw one fantastic shoulder and one great left hand pass… warming the coaches hearts! He also bagged a few nice scores.

The team is playing well at the moment… with a strengthening panel, which is very important. We need strong competition for places to keep these guys developing. Remember we were missing Mark, Hubie, Cian M and James today at least. Rotation will be a feature more and more to try and give them all games.
