In our first 15 a side game on a full championship pitch (in preparation for next season), our warriors put in another tremendous performance today, notwithstanding we were missing a few of our normal heros with Conor K, Mark, Hubie, Cian M and James missing. Captained by Conor R, who lead out by example at midfield, everyone showed real hunger to get on the ball and no one shirked their responsibilities.
The big pitch really gave our boys the chance to express themselves, and some of our attacks and movement was top drawer. In addition, it was great to see Naoise, Oran and Cormac play for the second half, having played a soccer match beforehand. All three had super games, with Cormac topping it with 2 goals!
Max defended our goals for the first half and then played up front in the second half, showing excellent kickouts and also got on the end of some runs up the wing in the second half. Our full backs started with Cian C, Seamus and Conor B, all of them playing very well, with Seamus going in goals for the second half and making at least 3 superb saves. Cian C covered most of the pitch at times, and Conor B had another great game, with one particular highlight being a full length block down when his man got inside him. Brian H, having had a great game up front in the first half, including scoring a spectacular goal, went back into full back for the second half to close up our defence.
Our half backs were a line of strength all the match, with Daniel, Mathew F and Eoin staring throughout, and Oran lending a hand in the second half. I thought Mathew F had a blinder today with excellent positioning, strong catching and running with the ball. Midfield battled all day, Byron and Conor R… both working tirelessly, and Byron bagging a few great scores from his attacking runs. Conor R defended exceptionally well and also made some fine catches.
Up front Paul had a great game on the wing with some fine catches, making himself available for Max’s kickouts on lots of occasions and well as getting a few good scores. Alex also had a fine game with plenty of catches and good strong running. Luke L scored early in the game to help settle the team down, and worked hard throughout. Brian H got on loads of ball up front in the first half and got some lovely scores. Adam also featured strongly, using great hands and strong running and catching, as well as block downs for the second week in a row. Cian C had a stint up here too. As did Cormac on his debut, scoring 2 fine goals and making some great runs on to pinpoint kick passes from Daniel and others.
It has been a great 2 weeks, but the coaches will all be happier when Ed gets back from America and we get back to some level of organisation! See you all at training on Monday evening. If you havn’t paid the €50 for training, please remember to bring it.
Thanks to all the supporters who travelled today.
