U12s win the Patrick Moran Cup in a super blitz in Cornelscourt

What an afternoon! With a panel of about 20 players the Gers took on Kilmacud, St Olafs and our newest formed neighbours Shankill over 3 matches, to emerge victorious. With the weather gods shining on us, some great football was on display.

We had many outstanding stars throughout the 3 matches, too many to name. But a major feature of our play was some fantastic movement and committed tackling and blockdowns – led the way by Conor B, who had a great tournament. Conor R was another man who really stepped up this weekend, with some outstanding fielding in particular. Mark O’L showed superb movement and distribution, getting a lot of players into the game as well as some fantastic individual scores.

We took some knocks as well! Cian C in typical fashion was throwing his weight around and took a couple of hard knocks, Conor K, having played very well but taking a very heavy knock in the ribs, and poor Eoin H has once again put his body on the line and has broken his arm. Eoin, we hope it mends quickly and you get back into position. When Conor K was injured Daniel C stepped into midfield and really had a super blitz.

Brian H was another man to impress over the weekend, and in particular against Kilmacud where he came into his own attacking at speed. Hubie, with a black and blue jaw from training during the week also showed pace and heart up front. Adam was also up front, getting some important scores as well as hitting cross bar and post! Cian M also showed an eye for the posts, and took a few very stylish scores, showing his marksmanship when we needed it. As did Max, whow battled well for pots at goals, as well as also helping out in goals from time to time.

Mathew F had a very good tournament, with some outstanding positioning and reading of the game, as well as great battling qualities. Ruari was often beside him and came into his own in the last and crucial match against Kilmacud, with an excellent display (with many blockdowns!). Seamus F played both in goals and in defence for the team over the various matches and did very well with great hands and strong tackling. Naoise  was also impressive, and rarely caught out of position – a hard man to get past! Byron as usual covered the whole pitch, and put in a very strong tournament, with some excellent tackling and catches.

Paul played on the wing, and showed some great attacking pace and distribution, setting up a couple of lovely scores. Inside him was Adam who got some key scores for us and battled hard. Alex is also starting to get into his own winning some good ball and tracking back very well. James also featured up front, very nearly snatching a fine point. We also have to mention our newest player, also James, who came down for the first time and will now be training with us. Well done James.

After the pitch activities, we brought all the players an supporters from all the clubs involved back upstairs in the Magic Carpet for some refreshments and prize givings. Thanks to all the parents who helped make that happen, as well as Ted and Paul and the rest of the club executive who helped out.
