U14’s Division 4 Final

Despite a superb 2nd half fight back, our U14’s were pipped in the Division 4 Final by an excellent Thomas Davis team yesterday (Saturday) in Kiltipper.

With torrential rain in the run up to the throw-in, the rain stopped just in time for our boys. After a steady enough start, Thomas Davis slowly built an impressive lead over the first half. They were a quick and strong team and were of course well used to the pitch. Despite some excellent defending and hard work throughout the team, Thomas Davis went in at half-time with a deserved 9 point lead.

They had though not reckoned with The Gers! The whole team stepped up a few gears in the 2nd half and slowly pulled back the lead.  With about 5 minutes to go, they had closed the gap to 2 points and Thomas Davis were worried.  However, their forwards woke up again and closed the game out with a 6 point victory.

To be honest, this was an excellent result for our boys who showed real heart and skill throughout. The opposition were a very good team and by far the best team in our division, and worthy winners of the final. They had a huge squad to pick from and for a small club like ours (though growing rapidly) to be ultra competitive until the last few minutes is a real achievement. Congratulations to all the boys and a big thanks to Des, Eamon & Paul for all the hard work.
