The U14’s had a very impressive Semi Final Win over Clan Na Gael today, to now reach the Final. The football they played and their Team performance, was excellent,  to win by a margin 6.13 to 1 .3 in Cornelscourt today.

This is a team of MEN. They have grown stronger as the season has progressed. Their personal bonds and commitment to each other has become a key success factor for this team and it showed on the Pitch today.

The lads arrived today with the knowledge that they had beaten Clan Na Gael at home in the group stage by a late controversial Ref decision and they were well beaten in the away fixture.  But that did not deter this team. The came out of the dressing room and started this game like Men possessed. They showed from the beginning that this Ger’s team really wanted to win and win for each other.

The team opened strongly with 2 points coming from Daniel and Conor K and a goal by Kevin. The Clan Na Gael team responded and pushed hard to get their 1st score. However, they met a very strong defence from , Conor R ( who had a fantastic match) , Alex ( who never gives an inch) , Jamie L( cleanest player on the pitch), Liam T ( who keeps the door shut) and Paul O C & Thomas who patrolled the wings.

We added more scores from Byron (o.2), Conor K (0.1) and Jamie B.H (0.2) and 3 great goals from Ciaran H, Kevin and Liam McC. In this period of the game Clan Na Gael came away with a goal. Our last line of defence today was Cormac  ‘ the Strong Man’ McCabe. He was like a giant today. He made  two unbelievable saves that were defo goals to any other keeper.

We finished the first half with another point from Daniel and a goal running from Mid Field from Jamie BH. The score at half time was Geraldine’s 5.9 to Clan Na Gaels 1 goal.

The 2nd half was a much tighter and low scoring affair. We introduced Stephen ‘ the Rock’ Murphy, Conor A and Chris G in the 2nd half. The weather conditions were tough with heavy rain. This half was a very physical game with many strong challenges being made ( on both sides). Clan Na Gael never game this game up and fought hard to the end. Under sever pressure we gave away a penalty. The ball was kicked low and hard to the right post, but our ‘the Strong Man ‘ MaCabe became 6 foot and dived to make a great save. With the match at 6.13 to Clan Na Gaels 1.3,and  weather conditions worsening and some of the play becoming dangerous the Ref decided to call up the game ten minutes early, resulting in 2 of our team mates Aidan & Ronan not getting their deserved run out.

This was a great result for this team and we wish them the best of luck in the Final. There was fantastic support from the Parents and Club in Corneslcourt today, thanks to all. Come on the Ger’s.

Fantastic performance guys… The movement and commitment was great and the grit to play it out in what was a horrible afternoon is a credit to the spirit in the team. Well done to the coaches too!
