The Geraldine’s U9s hurlers were away to Ballyboden on 11th March.
Two matches were played at the same time, and the Gers boys were split into two teams. The first team had the lineup of Jack, Finn, Colm, Ryan, JP, Riley, Tadgh, Daniel and Jack. It was a hard fought game in which Ballyboden boys played well (as well as tough!) Riley and Daniel took a couple of goals apiece, while the opposition were very good in the air, clocking up four high ones over the bar and two into the net.
The Ballyboden lads were hitting them high again in the second match. The Gers lineup featured Michael, James, Aidan, Senan, Senan K, James, Sam, Harry, Michael and Liam, with Cillian in goal. Cillian played a stormer of a match, showing real skill as he saved goal after goal. He also saved the Gers boys’ blushes, as without him the scoreline (as bad as it turned out) could have been much worse! Despite goals from James and Sam, Ballyboden, due to their skill with the high balls, romped home to victory.
But the Gers lads weren’t down-heartened – they know it’s playing the game and enjoying it that matters, and every match, even ones that don’t go your way, are valuable learning experiences!
