Feile 2013-Final 024

Well, what can we say!

The Gers Under 14’s – with ample assistance from the Under 13’s –  won their Feile Final in St Peregrine’s, Blakestown Road this morning!

It was the third year in a row for The Gers boys to reach a final, and following last year’s disappointment this years victory was twice as sweet.

With the benefit of a strong wind, The Gers were slow to build a lead with a nervous start resulting in 5 early wides. When they settled, the boys were superb and built up a 2-2 to 0-1 half time lead. While we on the sidelines feared this wasn’t enough for a second half against the wind, the boys dug deep and held out for a victory that was always in doubt until Mark O scored the third goal.

With a quick point at the beginning of the second half for Colmcilles, the pressure was on but the boys showed great resiliance in doing enough to force Whitehall into early wides, which probably made the difference.  A fierce fightback from Whitehall was held at bay and the Feile Trophy was heading to Cornelscourt on a final score of 3-2 to 0-4.

Congratulations to
Mark Theunissen (Capt), Matthew Reynolds, Zac Sattar, William O’Riordan, Stephen Ryan, Karl O’Connor, Eamonn Flannery, Guisseppe Coyne and their more youthful team mates Cormac McCabe, Jamie Blake Holmes, Thomas Ryan, Liam Tyrrell, Kevin Quinn, Stephen Murphy, Mark O’Leary, Donal McKeon. Jamie Langan, Alex Tallon, Conor Austin, Sean Hussey, Seamus McGovern, Liam McCarthy, Michael Barry, Aidan Ross, Chris Roland, Daniel Murray, Adam McGovern

On behalf of our club, we’d like to thank the team mentors Paul O’Connor, Des Tyrrell & Eamon Hussey with great support from our club coach Darren Magee.

It is however important to remember that it’s not all about winning! Having organise the Group matches and Semi Final in Whitehall on Saturday, and having provided a great lunch for participating teams in their club house, our opponents Whitehall Colmciles had a group of very disappointed boys on Sunday. Worse still, their other team also lost their Final! May I on behalf of our club, offer our thanks to Whitehall Colmcilles for their hospitality and also for their good wishes in defeat on Sunday. Here’s hoping that we can return the hospitality in the near future.

Onwards & Upwards!!
