The U10’s home game against a young and developing Wanderer’s team on Saturday morning was hampered a little by the strong winds and some problems with numbers on the visiting team. As it happened, the Ger’s had to give the other team four players in each half, which was a little disruptive, but did allow all of our players to get a full game. A big thank you to those players who volunteered (or were volunteered), all of whom made a special effort to bring the younger Wanderer’s players into the game.
The game itself was played at a high tempo, with the ball moving quickly throughout the pitch. We had the usual defensive master class from Jack, Dylan, Adam, Alex, Eoin B and Ben, while our forward line of Mark, Eoin H, Padraig, Sam and Liam worked hard to find their many scores (particularly when playing against the wind). Around the middle of the pitch – whether playing for Ger’s or Wanderer’s – JD, Omar, Charlie, Robbie, and Hugo all played really well and seemed to enjoy the challenge of finding their range. A number of parents have mentioned how much the team has come on since we started mid-week training, and it is clear he boys are working hard on the skills. It continues to bode well for the future of the team!
Well done to the boys, and with six wins in a row now, they can enjoy a weekend off next weekend. There is still a lot to be worked on, and we still have a couple of teams in our league that we have not been able to secure a win against: so that needs to be the target for the next few months.
